Population

The Lewiston-Auburn Metropolitan Statistical Area (MSA) population 1/ increased from 91,279 in 1970 to 107,704 in 2010. That was an increase of 18.0 percent.

The foreign-born (FB) population decreased from 6,188 in 1970 to 3,624 in 2010. That was a decrease of 41.4 percent. The foreign-born share changed from 6.8 percent to 3.4 percent.

The share of the overall population that was native-born (NB) increased by 22.3 percent.

The first chart below shows the three population change factors for three periods adjusted for annual average amounts. Natural change (B-D) was the primary source of added population in all periods and the sole source in the first period.

The second chart shows the same data but with an adjustment to reflect births to immigrants shifted to NIM. In it, B-D remained the primary source of added population in all periods.
